Nothing can beat a job like this landing with you. It was quite the refurbishment by Hoskins architects, and big spaces can be quite the challenge in terms of my own approach to lighting. I also had to be sensitive to the art works in certain areas where flash light, especially the powerful location type that I use couldn't be situated near them. Finding a way to work round that was all part of the wonderful challenge. Not to mention the spaces had to be photographed out of opening hours and with a member of staff constantly present due to insurance purposes. All of which was perfectly understandable, but with a few minor tweaks to the workflow, I found a way to work round the spaces with as close to my preferred methos as possible, and we made this wonderful set of images. A fantastic team of staff to work with who really accommodated my approach, despite it being pretty frantic, and shot at early morning hours, I'm amazed at just how many images I managed to make.
There's plenty more information on the Hoskins website, here's a quick quote from them on what what was done:
"The project involved extensively reworking the somewhat cramped and gloomy 1978 Property Services Agency (PSA) designed offices and Scottish Collection gallery, as well as linking to the 2004 John Miller and Partners Weston link, and creating new circulation routes to the Grade A listed gallery above. The designs include forming a new façade onto Princes Street Gardens, and extensive landscaping to the gardens to enhance accessibility down to the now main, gardens entrance."
